After former President Donald Trump repeatedly mispronounced and stumbled over words during a campaign rally this weekend, critics were quick to speculate about Trump’s mental acuity and health.
Ever since President Joe Biden stepped down from the 2024 presidential race after calls that he was too old to run again, many people have focused on Trump’s age and his cognitive abilities.
Trump’s Difficult Rally
On Saturday, Trump appeared at a campaign rally in Atlanta where he spoke to many of his supporters — and bashed Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the process.
Footage of this rally quickly hit the internet, causing many people to point out that Trump seemingly stumbled over many words throughout the night.
Mispronouncing Words
Most notably, Trump seemed to mispronounce many different words. Often, he eventually corrected himself and pronounced the words correctly.
However, this one rally saw Trump say “marbs” instead of “mobs”, as well as “place” instead of “police”, among other mispronunciations.
Slurring While Attacking Harris
When Trump attacked Harris, critics pointed out that he was slurring his words and mispronouncing many of his phrases.
“Together we will stop Kamala Harris’ nation reckting[…]I’ll tell you what…,” Trump said, before adding, “She will not stop, she said she was endorsing defund the place, and, the police, and she said violent marbs, let the violent mobs keep going.”
Trump Rally Goes Viral Online
Quickly after this rally took place, video footage from the event went viral online, as many Trump critics said that his speech and mistakes show that his mental acuity is on a decline.
Harris’ campaign account on X, formerly known as Twitter, retweeted a clip from the rally, which now has more than 700,000 views.
Trump Glitches
Harris’ campaign account, KamalaHQ, also wrote that “Trump glitches.”
This quickly caused many other X users to use the same phrase when discussing the odd performance from the former president on Saturday night.
Questioning Trump’s Mental Acuity
Now that Biden has stepped down from the presidential race, many have begun to attack Trump’s age and mental acuity — especially since Trump himself did this same thing to Biden.
As Trump is now running against a younger, 59-year-old Harris, critics have stated that Trump’s cognitive abilities should be tested.
Critics Go After Trump on X
Footage from this event quickly caused many people to jump in and go after Trump’s overall mental health.
The network MeidasTouch reposted a clip of Trump and wrote, “This is sad. He is declining fast. His brain is mush. This decline will only rapidly accelerate.”
Comparing Biden to Trump
Many Democrats online also wondered why the media was seemingly ignoring these Trump gaffes — especially as they spent a lot of time on Biden’s not too long ago.
The X account MuellerSheWrote posted, “He’s not well. The media should talk about it.”
Attacking the Media
Many Democrat supporters have gone after the media for weeks, as they feel that they attacked Biden’s age and mental acuity more than they ever have Trump’s.
“I’m surprised the media is not asking more questions about why no one around him is intervening with what is a clear and continual decline. We should also talk about his age,” user AdamParkhomenko wrote.
Trump’s Recent Mistakes
For the past few weeks, Trump has made a slew of mistakes when speaking, and critics have also pointed out that he’s made a number of bizarre statements.
Most notably, critics don’t understand why he continues to bring up the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter, calling him both “late” and “great.”
Questions Over Trump’s Mental Acuity Will Continue
As the presidential race gets closer to November, critics of Trump will likely only continue to question his overall cognitive abilities.
Trump is now the oldest person in the presidential race, and supporters of Harris think his mispronounced words and phrases, as well as his bizarre statements, may help her in November.
