New financial disclosures have revealed the large amount of money former President Donald Trump’s campaign has spent on fast food services and catering, such as McDonald’s.
This revelation comes as the former president is working to defeat current President Joe Biden in November’s general election. Biden’s campaign finances were also revealed, showing what his campaign spent the most on.
Trump’s Campaign and Fast Food
Donald J. Trump For President 2024 — the president’s official campaign — has released data explaining they spent more than $35,000 on catering and fast food in May.
While much of this money went to a variety of different places, there were a few clear winners that rose out from the rest of the bunch. For example, the campaign spent more money at McDonald’s than at any other fast food establishment.
McDonald’s Remains a Consistent Favorite
As seen in this data, the Trump campaign spent more than $4,700 at McDonald’s in May. Of course, there’s no telling who these meals and catering were for, as it likely was for many people attached to the campaign efforts.
However, McDonald’s has long been a go-to favorite for the former president.
Buying Fast Food
This Federal Election Commission (FEC) report further showed that the Trump campaign visited many other eateries and fast food locations throughout May.
In total, the campaign spent more than $36,780 during this time on food. Many transactions occurred at Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Chick-fil-A, Jimmy John’s, KFC, Uber Eats, and Wendy’s.
Other Favorites
This data also highlights some other fast food favorites for the Trump campaign, other than McDonald’s.
The campaign spent more than $3,900 at Jimmy John’s, while also spending $3,140 at Chick-Fil-A. Finally, more than $1,700 was spent at Wendy’s.
April’s Comparison
The Trump campaign spent a whopping amount on fast food and catering services in May — likely because the former president is now out on the campaign trail more than he may have been earlier this year.
By comparison, the campaign only spent about $4,280 on catering and restaurants in April, the month prior.
Spending in May
Data has also shown just how much the Trump campaign has spent during this reporting period. In total, the campaign spent almost $7.9 million.
This large amount of money went to a variety of different services and areas. For example, this money includes paying staff, as well as for their travel and accommodation during the campaign.
Trump’s Donations
This FEC filing also highlighted how many donations are coming into the former president’s campaign efforts.
According to this new information, the Trump campaign has received more than $75 million in donations. It started this new reporting period with $49 million in cash. Meanwhile, it has now ended this period with about $117 million cash on hand.
Biden’s Restaurant Spending
The Trump campaign wasn’t alone in their FEC filings. The Biden campaign also released their own financial reports about how they’re spending money throughout these latest months.
In June, Biden For President, Biden’s official reelection campaign, spent more than $32,100 at food establishments.
Restaurants vs Fast Food
However, there was an interesting difference in how Biden’s campaign spent their money on food, versus how the Trump campaign did. For the most part, the Biden campaign spent more money at restaurants, such as steakhouses and BBQ eateries, rather than fast food.
Biden’s campaign spent money at establishments such as Dragon Pit, Asadero, and Tonic Seafood and Steak.
Biden’s Donations
Meanwhile, Biden’s campaign has revealed their own donations that they’ve raised during this same time period.
According to this data, the Biden campaign raised about $38 million. However, it also spent almost $31 million in this reporting period.
Spending Money on Campaign Efforts
These reports further highlight how both campaigns spend quite a lot of money on food and drink during these reelection periods. It’s also interesting to see how both campaigns differ in where their money is being spent.
Plus, this money is often being spent on a variety of different campaign workers and volunteers. Thus, when the Trump or Biden campaign spends thousands at one establishment, it’s likely for many campaign workers and not just one person.
