Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has threatened to sue former President Donald Trump if he continues to allegedly lie about an altercation the two had.
Brown has recently been making headlines after he stated that Trump lied about almost being in a helicopter crash with him.
Trump’s Remarks About Brown
This latest situation began after Trump told a story about how he was allegedly on a helicopter ride with Brown.
During this ride, Brown reportedly made “terrible” comments about Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris and Brown dated back in the 1990s.
A Near Helicopter Crash
Trump also explained that, during this ride with Brown, they both almost experienced a helicopter crash.
These comments were made during a press conference with Trump that occurred earlier this month.
A Questionable Story
After Trump told this tale, many reporters reached out to Brown to get his side of the story. Many were surprised when Brown stated that this never happened — he was never in any helicopter with Trump.
Regardless of Brown’s statement, Trump and his team doubled down and claimed that he had, indeed, almost been in a helicopter crash with the former San Francisco mayor.
Trump Threatens to Sue
After New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman covered the story and said that Trump was inaccurate in his story, the former president allegedly said that he was “probably going to sue” the paper.
Haberman also revealed that Trump called her and “vehemently maintained” that he and Brown were on a helicopter ride that almost crashed.
Another Twist to the Story
While Brown continued to deny that this happened — and Trump continued to say that it did — another twist in the story emerged.
Former Los Angeles City Council member and former California State Senator Nate Holden revealed that he was in a similar situation with Trump in a helicopter that had issues. Holden believes that Trump may have confused him with Brown.
Brown Threatens to Sue
Now, Brown has come forth and threatened to sue Trump if he continues to make these claims.
Brown explained that “somebody has got to make sure” that the former president “stops lying”, saying, “If he keeps it up, at some point, I’m going to give him a taste of his own conduct.”
Threats of Law Suits
Brown then stated that if Trump wants to sue the New York Times for covering the story, then he’ll sue Trump in turn because he allegedly lied.
“If he sues The New York Times for printing that I said he lied, I’m going to sue him,” Brown stated.
Brown Doesn’t Sue People Often
Brown’s attorney, Joseph Cotchett, came out to explain that Brown isn’t the type of person who sues people often. However, he’ll make an exception for the former president.
“He’s a reputable guy who’s never brought a lawsuit in his life, but you know who’s pushing him to do it? A guy named Trump,” Cotchett said.
Holden Also Wants Trump Held Accountable
Meanwhile, Holden, who likely was the man that Trump was talking about when it comes to this helicopter ride story, has also come out to state that he believes Trump should be “held accountable” if he continues to propagate “a lie.”
It appears that Trump hasn’t continued to talk about this story — or maintain that Brown was the man he was in the helicopter with — since Holden came out with his own version of the situation.
Holden and Brown Calling Trump Out on Lies
Holden also stated that he believes Trump didn’t think he’d be called out for these lies, as he said, “I’m 95 years old, and Willie is 90, and he made the assumption we wouldn’t be here anymore, and nobody would challenge it.”
Holden then added, “Well, we’re alive and well.”
Trump vs Harris
These latest comments come as Trump continues to battle Harris in their quest to win over the White House in November’s election.
Many analysts have pointed out that this initial Brown story mainly had to do with Trump alleging that the former mayor was speaking badly about Harris, his ex-girlfriend. Trump has made increasing attacks against Harris amid her wave of momentum in the race.
