The National Weather Service has warned Southern California that a new brutal heat wave will encompass much of the region for the next week.
Over several days, Californians will face sweltering temperatures and excessive heat warnings. This weather forecast has already worried many about potential wildfires popping up. As a result, fire officials in the state have explained that they remain on alert.
An Incredibly Hot California Summer
This summer, much of California saw multiple heat waves that resulted in record-breaking temperatures lingering over towns and cities.
These triple-digit temperatures seen this year also led to various excessive heat warnings being issued up and down the coast.
A New Heat Wave
California’s hot summer isn’t over yet. The National Weather Service has just warned California — and Southern California in particular — that a new heat wave is headed their way.
According to the service, this new heat wave will cause temperatures to rise around 110 degrees later this week from Wednesday to Friday.
Multiple Excessive Heat Warnings
This new brutal heat wave has already resulted in various excessive heat warnings being issued for the week ahead.
From late Wednesday to at least Friday, much of Southern California will be under excessive heat warnings.
Areas Affected
The Weather Service also explained the areas that will be impacted by this heat wave — and it’s much of the region of Southern California.
“All valleys, mountains, deserts, and inland areas of Los Angeles County, including Downtown Los Angeles” will be affected, according to the National Weather Service.
Hot Temperatures in Downtown Los Angeles
Downtown Los Angeles will also be hit by this severe heat wave.
According to experts, this region will specifically see temperatures in the lower 90s early this week — only for these temperatures to drastically rise up to 100 degrees by the end of the week.
Above Average Temperatures
Weather experts have also explained that this heat wave will result in temperatures being well above average.
KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said, “The heat is for everybody here in Southern California. When we get to Thursday and Friday, we’re 15 degrees above the average … This is just day after day after day of heat.”
A New Threat for Fires
California has struggled to deal with various raging wildfires this summer, as hot temperatures and high winds have fueled blazes.
The Park Fire has even become one of the most destructive and largest fires seen in California history. Now, a new heat wave brings about yet another threat to these ongoing fires.
Fire Officials Are on High Alert
Worries over this heat wave and how it may impact fires — or help start new ones — have caused fire officials in the state to reveal that they remain on high alert.
DiCarlo explained, “Heat and winds are never a good combination for firefighters.”
Other Weather Events in California
Strong dry winds and excessive heat aren’t the only weather events being seen in California this upcoming week.
Areas of inland locations also have the chance of seeing thunderstorms multiple days this week.
An Ongoing Heat Wave
Weather experts have explained that temperatures may cool slightly once the weekend hits. However, this doesn’t mean that temperatures will drop as many may want them to.
Instead, temperatures will remain well above average for the foreseeable future until this severe heat wave is finally over.
California’s Hot Summer Continues
Thanks to this newest weather forecasting, it’s clear to see that California’s brutally hot summer — one that has broken many records — isn’t quite over yet.
Excessively hot temperatures are still in store for many Californians who have already had to deal with an incredibly hot summer.
