Could you be eligible for a $20,000 check just to move somewhere new? According to sources like the Daily Mail and MSN, yes — you could be. Here’s what you need to know about the new financial incentives for moving that are rolling out in 2024.

The high cost of living has barred many Americans from moving where they wanted to since inflation peaked between 2022 and 2023, per the Daily Mail. This has caused a ripple effect that many have seen ongoing for the past several years.

States are working to combat this strain by offering a one-time financial incentive payment between $5,000-$20,000; encouraging people to move there and support the local economy.

Since affordability is noted to be the driving real estate force in 2024 per Zillow, many anticipate the program will be a major success.

If you’re interested in participating in the program, MSN notes that you can view available opportunities at MakeMymove.com. Below, we’ve listed a few of the most popular locations participating in the program, as well as the amount that you can get from moving to that state.

    Topeka, Kansas

Employers participating in the GO Topeka program can help their employees benefit, should they choose to move to Topeka, Kansas. The city’s program is currently offering up to $15,000 to those who are willing to purchase a home in the city, and who work for a GO Topeka-approved employer. Renters may be eligible for up to $10,000, per MSN.

Additionally, the Sunflower State is offering tax reimbursements for those who move to the state holding active employment with a company on the GO Topeka list.

    Tulsa, Oklahoma

The Tulsa Remote program is open to those who currently have a full-time, remote job and who have lived outside of Oklahoma for 365 days prior to application submission. Eligible candidates can win up to $10,000 for moving to Oklahoma, and will receive the reward after a lease has been signed or a home has been purchased.

Additionally, participants in this program will get 36 free months to a high-scale co-working space in Tampa; alleviating home office expenses.

    West Virginia

The Ascend West Virginia program is statewide and offers legal adults $12,000 to move to anywhere in the state. To qualify, you must be a remote worker, and you must be working full-time. If you are chosen, you will get $10,000 paid out during the first year (in monthly installments), and then an additional $2,000 after the completion of a successful second year.

    Kentucky (Multiple Counties)

If you’re considering moving to Floyd, Harlan, Letcher, Johnson, and Pike counties, you could be eligible for a financial reward via the Shaping Our Appalachian Region program. Eligible candidates will be offered $5,000 to cover relocation costs, a $2,500 bonus for a spouse who will accompany you, and a welcome package (a $250 value!)

The only requirement is that you are a remote worker.
